Our Story
Why the foundation exists
Tahira Umeed-e-Seher Foundation was established to work alongside families in Pakistan on the practical obstacles that decide how their year goes — a school term that cannot be paid for, a treatment that keeps being postponed, a month when the rations run out early, a winter that arrives before the blankets do.
The foundation’s name carries its purpose. Umeed-e-Seher — the hope of dawn — describes the moment before things improve rather than the improvement itself. That is where this work sits: at the point where a household is still deciding what it will have to give up.
We are not a large organisation and do not present ourselves as one. What we can do is stay close to a limited number of neighbourhoods, know them properly, and be reliable there.

To remove the specific, practical obstacles that keep families in Pakistan from education, healthcare and enough food — reliably, close to home, and without asking anyone to trade their dignity for help.

Neighbourhoods where a difficult month does not cost a child their schooling or a family their health — and where the help that closes that gap comes from within the community itself.
Values
What we hold ourselves to
These are commitments rather than descriptions. Each one is specific enough that we could be shown to have broken it.
Dignity first
عزتِ نفس
Nobody should have to be publicly identified as needy in order to receive help. Distribution happens close to home and without an audience, and we do not photograph people in the worst moment of their week.
Say only what is true
سچائی
We publish figures we can support from our own records, and we say plainly when something is not yet confirmed. A charity that rounds its numbers up once will do it again.
Local knowledge

The people who know which household is struggling this month live on the same street. Our work is designed around that knowledge rather than around a plan written elsewhere.
Arrive on time

Help that comes a month late often costs more and achieves less. We work backwards from the moment support has to arrive — the week before term, before the cold, before Ramadan.
Know our limits

Community-level work cannot substitute for a hospital, a school system or the state. Recognising where our competence ends, and referring onwards, is part of doing this properly.
Answer for the money
جواب دہی
Every donation belongs to the person who gave it until it reaches the person it was meant for. Donors are entitled to ask what happened to it, and to get a straight answer.
Method
How we work
Listen
Work starts with households and community members telling us what is actually going wrong, not with a programme looking for somewhere to be applied.
Verify
We confirm circumstances discreetly before committing support, because assistance given on an unchecked assumption reaches the wrong household and undermines trust in the whole effort.
Deliver
Support is delivered directly, in the form that is needed — fees paid, medicine dispensed, rations handed over — rather than converted into a voucher or an event.
Record
Details are captured at the point of delivery by the person delivering. This is what makes an honest impact figure possible later, and it cannot be reconstructed afterwards.
Follow up
We stay in contact with the households we support. Knowing a family well enough to notice when something has changed is more useful than any single intervention.

The foundation depends on people who give money, time or access. Each of these routes supports the same four programmes.
